Years, not so quickly
To realize that there are
Other ways to be happy than through romantic love.
Being in someone's arms,
Breathing their breath,
Is not the only way to be near Heaven
Or to feel God.
We have forgotten that feeling romantic love
Is only part of life, not its whole.
I have learned this in the last two years,
When I threw away love
For a moment of indulgence
And changed the course of my life.
I have done what I can
To be anyone but the
Person I saw in those few months.
That person was not me,
Though for an eternity I thought it was,
That my life before had just been a lie

Oh, how I'd love to live
In the lake district,
Or in Yeats's Ireland,
So wrought with war.
Or dreamy London,
Dreaming of daffodils
Or of Lucy long gone.
Or to visit Tintern Abbey
Alone, myself little changed.
None of these places I've ever seen,
But all are far better
Than the places I've been.
